SPECIAL APPEALS
OUR RESCUE DOGS COULD USE YOUR HELP
If you have any old duvets/quilts/pillows that you no longer want please consider donating them to us so that we can turn them into warm cosy beds for the animals in our care. Also if you have a sewing machine and some time to spare we would be very grateful if you could make up some dog beds for us We have all the necessary materials for the making of same but unfortunately with so much to do and so little time these types of jobs never get done.
A GIFT WITH MEANING - A GIFT WHICH MAKES A DIFFERENCE
When you are contemplating purchasing a birthday present, anniversary gift, etc we would appreciate if you could keep us in mind when you are thinking of gift ideas for your friends and/or family. We will give you a certificate to present to a person of your choice informing them of your donation to our charity in their name as a gift with a difference.
Please contact Sheena on 0871315904 or Sarah on 0861031662 for more information

We again appeal to the public to please help us to stop animals having to live lonely, painful lives. If you know of any animals suffering near you please contact your nearest dog warden, rescue, spca, etc and give them the information so that they can help to relieve the situation for the better.
Bertie .......... what can you say, there is no excuse for this ........
According to this boys ear tattoos he is 7yrs old, and judging by his body condition he spent a lot of those years living in misery. Upon arrival his medical conditions were noted by the vet as:
(a) Mange - not nice but very easily treated
(b) Severe Dehydration - Disgraceful, dogs need constant access to drinking water
(c) Shortened Leg Muscle/Ligaments - confined to small space for lengthy period of time
(d) Emaciated & No Body Muscle - lack of food & nourishment
It will be a slow road to recovery for the middle aged boy who looks & moves more like a 14/15yr old. Due to his shortened rear leg ligaments/tendons he walks with his legs bent and turned out. He has to have his front legs washed down due to the fact that each time he relieves his kidneys he wets himself as a result of his bandy back legs.
The first time he saw a bucket of water he drank so much that he bloated himself and when he got his first meal here he ate it so fast that he got sick due to not chewing properly.
It is cases like this that annoy us most as Bertie has no medical reasons for being in such a horrible state ................ when will people treat these noble creatures with the care and respect they deserve.
UPDATE 28/10/07: Bertie finally was passed strong enough to be neutered on Thursday and thankfully all went well during and after the procedure. He has had to have steroid injections to help his hips/lower back and also has to have physiotherapy everyday in an effort to encourage his tendons/muscles/ligaments to elongate and loosen in an effort to straighten his back legs. Mentally he has made great advances and has discovered the pleasure of living with humans and sleeping on a couch.
UPDATE 15/01/08: Bertie is now well enough to join our other dogs on the waiting list. If you would be interested in adopting our special boy please feel free to contact us.
