Looking For A 2011 Calendar ??? Click Here

Sadly Jerry started showing signs of persistent pain and so we made the very difficult choice to bid farewell to him on the 13th of April ...

A mere week short of his 11th birthday, he was a gentleman throughout his time with us and his passing has left a large void in our lives ;(

My Name Is Jerry And You Are Welcome To My Page

Which Is Specially For Me & My Friends Who Need Your Help !!

jerrypagehello

“So why do I have a page to write on ... ???

What makes me so different to all the other animals in the care of Clare Animal Welfare I hear you ask ..... ???”

Well aside of being a handsome regal loving 10yr old greyhound with a charming personality and amusing elderly idiosyncrasies I was diagnosed as having Epulis (mouth tumours) which require ongoing regular checking, removal depending on size and continuing treatment so it was decided that it was best for me if I remained on as a permanent resident of Clare Animal Welfare so that my healthcare could be continued with the vet I have become accustomed to, living in the home of one of the group’s members which I have been in since my arrival, with the doggie & human friends I have made so as not to have to make me travel to a new home and get to know all the things associated with it.

Jerry&SaoirseCorofinShowNot wishing to be a complete lay-about I have taken it upon myself to be the face and voice of the ‘special needs cases’ that quite often come into the care of Clare Animal Welfare (myself included of course so some of the requests might be for things to make my life more comfortable, I shall try not to go too overboard !!! ) and also when an opportunity arises I have been known to go out and about mingling with members of the general public in an effort to promote “Greyhounds As Pets” - to the left is a photo of me with Saoirse who is holding the trophy I won in one of the sections of a dog show at the Corofin Agricultural Show in July 2009.

I wonder if the people I won money for at the racing tracks many years ago realise I’m still gathering the dust collectors even in my golden years ??

So now on to the ‘what you can do or give’ part of my page ... read on for how can you help me and my friends who have more than the typical medical requirements of vaccinations, neutering, microchipping, worming, etc, etc and who exactly are the current creatures needing this ....

Due to people sometimes worrying that some charities use their donations to pay clerical expenses or wages (though I can assure you in any case this does not happen in Clare Animal Welfare) and not to those they want to help we have a list of things you can actually pay for if you do not wish to send money, which humans cannot benefit from, that us animals would really be grateful to receive !!

Current Animals Needing Extra Special Care/Treatment

  1. Well of course there is myself - Jerry
  2. Luna who is a 6mth old lurcher who has cancer of the Thymus Gland which has been removed and other glands have been tested which have shown that irregular cells have only been found in two other glands near where the Thymus was so this fact together with the fact that she is a happy, painfree, loving pup the decision was made that she deserved every chance to try to beat the cancer and so she has just started her chemotherapy which will last for 4mths if all is going to plan.

Things We Would Like / Need

Dog Chews (these help my gums & teeth and they also keep Luna occupied on cold wet days when she can’t go out for her run)

Greyhound style waterproof fleece lined coats (I wear a 28inch and Luna wears a 24inch)

Toys (to keep Luna occupied and out of mischief, not plastic or nylon type ones though as she just shreds them in an hour or two)

Warm, comfy, washable bedding (in this weather we could never have enough because the washing machine is in high demand)

The Essentials We Need

Continuing Veterinary Attention - We are both under the care of Ballyhugh Veterinary Centre in Gort so if you wish you can send a donation towards Clare Animal Welfare’s bill directly to them (you will find their contact details on their website)

Food - ‘Our Shopper’ gets our food from the Pet Supermarket in the Gort Road Industrial Estate in Ennis so you could always pay money off the bill there or pay €17.00 for a bag of food and ask them to keep it for her to collect (they know the food we eat)

Future Ideas

I am thinking of getting my human carer to do up some items with my photo on for supporters to buy and the funds generated would go into my fund for me and my friends so keep checking back to my page to see further updates on what is happening.

Thanks for visiting my page and feel free to suggest things to me or to do some fundraising yourself

      Jerry ;)
